Caulfield Race 2 #3 Regal Award - $3.40 (Win)

I strongly believe the winner comes from either this bloke or Centu Cavaddi here, and that this is the form to go off, especially since they were both emergencies for the Caulfield Guineas. Regal Award went down the last time these two met by 1.2 lengths on the line to Centu Cavaddi after making their runs together up the straight. Unfortunately, around 150m out, Regal Award got held up behind the eventual winner and lost all momentum, before finishing off well enough sectionally to hold fourth.

Two things that will improve the Regal Award’s chances this time in, despite the negative gate change and the 2.5kg against him, is the fact that he gains a strong, talented jockey in Lachlan Neindorf (which offsets 2kg of the 2.5kg as there was an apprentice on last start), but also the earmuffs going on for the first time. Regal Award over raced badly last time out, and a stronger jockey and ear muffs should give him every chance to settle stepping up to the mile.

With not a lot of speed engaged, they could take him to the front, which they did two starts ago for a successful outing, though dropping back from the gate wouldn’t surprise me either, to save him for one big run. I reckon Centu Cavaddi will still be midfield despite the better draw this time out, and could find some trouble if they aren’t careful.
