Race 1

Blackbooker Allroundgoodguy finished off last preparation with his best run to date, leading until very late. A recent jumpout and trial win, which showed similar tactics was ideal viewing. With not a lot of speed engaged, expecting him to take up the running and be hard run down. I Am Ralph the clear danger following a solid run first-up and being up in distance. Amical and Sir Monica round out the numbers.

Race 2

Happy to side with Lady Zelda here against rival Sensational Secret. Both met last start, with Lady Zelda getting the upper hand, and although Sensational Secret did her best work late, Gawler might not be her track, especially with the draw difference. Lady Zelda has drawn nicely and will be in this race a long way from home. Forever A Diamond will need luck, but can feature, as can Glacial Fire.

Race 3

This sets up beautifully for Princess On Palm who gets to 1500m for the first time since coming to the Hickmott stable and drawing the inside gate. Really hit the line at Strathalbyn last start, and should be ready to salute here third-up. Paganini is a five start maiden who has improved with each run to date. He will relish the 1500m. Perilous Lass should be thereabouts with a positive draw whilst King Edward should improve second-up.

Race 4

Rough old race this, plenty of chances. Flyway is one of the more experienced runners in this field, and his record speaks for itself. I love the claim, accompanied by going up in distance and back in grade. The draw should give him every chance, and his experience at Gawler gives him the upper hand. Pacific Cross should improve with her second start for the Bain/Taylor stable. Blue Special is gunning for back-to-back wins, whilst Titan Rising will need some luck.

Race 5

Steel Tsunami is resuming after 210 days, and since the crossover noseband went on last preparation, he has been a different horse. The draw worries me and Crowther has been put on for Milnes, which concerns me as his best runs have been with Milnes aboard. He is the class though. Setteveli should improve third-up, happy to forgive his last start failure, and go by his nice first-up effort. There Goes My Hero is first-up and back to very unsuitable distance, keen to watch with interest. Articulating is the best of the rest.

Race 6

Happy to side with Dodd who finally draws a nice gate this preparation following two solid runs from poor gates. He gets a nice 1.5kg swing on rival Lakehurst from their last encounter, and he is a previous winner at this track and distance, albeit in maiden grade. Look for him to be right in the thick of it late. Lakehurst likes Gawler too, but the draw and weight swing has it in less favour to Dodd. Costless should improve third-up and fourth is a lottery.

Race 7

Tough race to finish on, and you could make a case for most of these. Monseagle doesn’t mind Gawler and he has been pretty consistent over his last two. Going to need a good ride, as he hasn’t won since 2024. Lightly raced Copper Bullet has to deal with a terrible draw and the unknown at 1500m, but he looks promising. France’s Boy is having his 155th start, yes you read that right, and he could win this. Flying Step can run another good race.
