TRUE, Going: Good
Race 1
Small field of three-year-olds, intriguing little race. Oakley Miss gets the blinkers first time, and following four placings in her career, she gets to tackle the mile for the first time, which looks ideal with Jake Toeroak aboard. Stable mate Kalmana looks the biggest danger even though it’s a 4.5kg swing against him from the last time they met. Not sure a mile will suit him. It will definitely suit Golden Guru who is up from 1200m. He will relish this distance and be fighting out the finish. Sassy Sophie is placed at a mile already and will be thereabouts.
Selections: #2 Oakley Miss, #4 Golden Guru, #1 Kalmana, #5 Sassy Sophie
Bet Strategy: No Bet
Race 2
I really think Talisay is a good bet here. She has been running nicely over the mile or so this preparation, but 1800m looks a nice step here fourth-up, especially considering she has placed in Listed grade in her one go over 1800m. No weight and a nice draw just provides more confidence. Visitor Sir Rockford is under the odds, despite a nice win at Seymour. Distance is no issue for him. Darknconfidential won at the mile last time out, and could run a bold race up in grade and distance. Firmly against Komachi here on the back up, especially at the price.
Selections: #6 Talisay, #4 Sir Rockford, #2 Darknconfidential, #3 Magnetic Edge
Bet Strategy: #6 Talisay - Win @ $3.80
Race 3
Looks to be a long tail to this four-year-old maiden race. Hot Statement looks the one at the price despite being first-up after 300 days. His recent 1000m trial at Murray Bridge caught my eye and will get a soft run from gate 1. If he runs up to his Murray Bridge run in his first preparation, he goes close here. Buckingham Palace is the deserved favourite here, but is a bit short, especially from that gate. Victorian visitor Presscode has jumped out well, and should be ready to go on debut. Ruled By Thieves rounds out the rest.
Selections: #4 Hot Statement, #2 Buckingham Palace, #7 Presscode, #8 Ruled By Thieves
Bet Strategy: #4 Hot Statement - Small win @ $5.00
Race 4
Tight little race this one, any of them can win. Sir Now is the default on topper, and he is the epitome of consistency, running in the top 3 in 12 of his 14 starts, and he has won half of them. Lovely gate, maps on pace and he has carried weight in the past. I just can’t get him that short. Grinzinger Prince is a tremendous each-way price first-up. He is a Listed placegetter who has a decent first-up record. This looks a great kick-off race. Trapeze Warrior is one you can’t rule out with the lethal Opperman/Stokes combination, and he will likely go forward from the gate. Is he up to this race though? Sixteen Reasons a chance back from Group 3 and Listed grade.
Selections: #1 Sir Now, #2 Grinzinger Prince, #4 Trapeze Warrior, #3 Sixteen Reasons
Bet Strategy: #2 Grinzinger Prince - Very small each way @ $11.00/$3.00
Race 5
Rough old race this. Tottori looked to have shown some talent in his debut, but has been off the scene for 381 days. Trialled well enough for this and drawn to do little work, just wonder how forward he might be. Hypernova the clear danger from a decent draw, but does need a lot to go his way with the weight and race pattern. Falaise and Lovin’ Laughs round out the numbers, who could surprise but are both coming off 287 days and 60 days off respectively.
Selections: #7 Tottori, #1 Hypernova, #3 Falaise, #4 Lovin’ Laughs
Bet Strategy: No Bet
Race 6
Best Bet of the afternoon comes up here in Pelevecchio who I have rated a lot shorter than the market price. She ran credibly first-up over 1400m, but her best is clearly over further. I expect them to elect to ride her a touch closer from the gate and with the weight she has. Tower of Tuscany looks the next best, coming off a Class 2 mile placing, and with a nice draw, should be fighting out this one. Grinzinger Halo broke her maiden last start over the mile but has drawn shockingly up in grade. Should be hitting the line. Boom Bang next best.
Selections: #2 Pelevecchio, #3 Tower of Tuscany, #5 Grinzinger Halo, #1 Boom Bang
Bet Strategy: #2 Pelevecchio - Win @ $2.20
Race 7
This bloke doesn’t win often, but Sachem looks well placed here back in grade. Two decent runs over 1200m, but now gets to 1600m third-up which is ideal. He has won in better grade over this trip, but on soft ground, which looks preferred for him. Savsonic won first-up in a tight go and has drawn nicely for this contest. Lomax should improve back to a mile and Super Lad should be competitive up in grade and on pace.
Selections: #3 Sachem, #6 Savsonic, #4 Lomax, #5 Super Lad
Bet Strategy: #3 Sachem - Win @ $3.30
Race 8
Wide-open race, and a few well priced runners. Pacific Jewel who is now with the Doudle stable placed well first-up in similar grade but now takes her own sex which is ideal for her, especially from the draw. She maps a lot better than last start, which should see her go very close. The Plastics and Cielao are terrific value at their prices. The Plastics should have placed last start, and back in grade with the draw and claim brings her right into this. Cielao is first-up after a spell and can go to a new level following an impressive trial. Areyoureadyforit, Global Turn, Affaire Vue and Extinguish all have claims.
Selections: #5 Pacific Jewel, #7 The Plastics, #8 Cielao, #2 Areyoureadyforit
Bet Strategy: #5 Pacific Jewel - Small win @ $4.80, #7 The Plastics - Very small each way @ $13.00/$3.90, #8 Cielao - Very small each way @ $17.00/$4.50
Race 9
Another deep race with many chances. Up The Den landed on top who is first-up, though should appreciate being back on top of the ground, especially with the draw and claim. His best is good enough. Schroder’s Mistake is a consistent gelding, but tackles 1000m for the first time from a poor draw. He is classy, but this might be too hard. Madam Jeanette is a forgive from last start, and if she runs up to her start prior, she could win this. A handful could finish in the top four, led by Misludi.
Selections: #14 Up The Den, #3 Schroder’s Mistake, #16 Madam Jeanette, #19 MIsludi
